WOODSTOCK & WEST REGIONAL MEETING
This month’s meeting was held at Eve Baer’s Rainbow Lodge, with a first look at the earliest of Ulster County League’s scrapbooks. Kingston formed a provisional League in 1959 and was granted full status in 1960. It was so interesting to look at some of the publications and activities that were happening in our earliest days.
Discussion drifted to what makes LWV relevant today and how we can be more inclusive of people with diverse interests and beliefs. It was decided that the most effective thing we can do right now is to go back to basics, look into our community’s needs and see how we can be helpful. Next year’s elections will be local ones, so sponsoring candidate forums will be a priority, with support of female candidates of any party as a secondary goal. We will also be looking at more of the League’s history and seeing slides of early activities. The LWVUS began right here in the Hudson Valley after the 19th Amendment was ratified, so there is a lot to know.
Meanwhile, one of our group will be checking in with Family of Woodstock to see how we can be of service there during this holiday season.
Our next meeting will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 10th at Rainbow Lodge on Route 212 in Mount Tremper. All are welcome.
DUTCHESS MEETING
With Holiday Parties competing for space, we had to change our normal venue for December 13th meeting to the EverReady Diner in Hyde Park. Look for our group towards the back of the Diner! As always, we get together at noon and spend a pleasant time together discussing the latest issues. Anyone is welcome to attend!
SOUTHERN TIER
We will be meeting at the Silk Factory in Newburgh on December 20th at noon! While most of us are from Orange, Southern Dutchess and Southern Ulster, we are always open to League members and their friends. As the New Year is almost upon us, we will find plenty to talk about and plan for…
